Developing a Reading Hobby

“Reading was a waste of time,” thought I, who did nothing but play video games after school. I used to be a boy who hated reading books for pleasure. Even when I was assigned a book in English class, I would get lazy and use the internet to read a summary of the assigned chapters. I could have learned so much about the world if I had started reading books earlier in my childhood. This flawed thinking must change.

From the communication techniques taught in How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie to the secret of achieving anything you desire in Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, there is a vast sea of knowledge that I haven’t yet explored. Of course, there is the argument that I did not know any better as a kid. As a compromise, I am now choosing to make changes in order to learn how to stay afloat and navigate through the sea of knowledge before I waste my precious youth years.

Since I will be off to university in the fall of this year, I wanted to make some changes to be the best version of myself. I am starting a personal project to publish notes and opinions of the books I read during university. Publishing my work is a method that can make me accountable for finishing the books that I start to benefit others by uploading a review. If all goes according to plan, I will begin having the motivation to read, gradually changing it into a hobby to replace entertainment.
